The Journey

If you do the things God desires and you do it whole heartedly, you are bound to be disliked by men.

Fanatic, Foolish, Unrealistic, Unreasonable are some of the words generously given to those who do God’s will at all costs.

The beautitudes in Matthew 5 ends with a profound statement in verse 11 & 12. “Blessed are you WHEN people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me”. Jesus was the one speaking here. Notice he used the word WHEN, not IF, not SHOULD, he used WHEN.
The word WHEN connotes certainty. It means it’s a sure thing, it must happen, it will happen, it has to happen. It’s beyond a possibility, it’s a fact.

Did you notice the phrase “all kinds of evil”? This phrase implies that persecution is a continuous process of sorts. When they try evil A and you rise above it, then they’ll try evil B and go on like that.
Blessed are you when people… not unbelievers, not believers but people. It means believers and unbelievers which constitute of people would persecute you.

Isn’t it surprising how the good things we were taught as kids now come across as wrong? Take for instance lying; someone in business comes out to say it is foolishness to always say the truth because you won’t make profit. Thank God for the infallible compass called the Bible lest we would have missed it greatly.

Don’t compromise, don’t fret. Hold fast to that which is true. We already know how this journey will be and we’re not going to quit; not now, not ever.

My Better Philosophy

“The better I get, the more I meet better people; people who live great lives despite the innumerable buts around them”

It’s true birds of the same feather flock together. People who share similar ideals and philosophies tend to seek each other out and stick. The reason is simple; no one wants to be told consistently “you’re wrong”. This causes them to drift towards those who will boost their ideology.

If you consistently find yourself around people who hurt you, its probably because you’re attracting them either through words, actions, character or a “healthy” mixture.

“If you seek to meet better people, be better yourself”

Rich people usually have lots of rich friends. Poor people, poor friends. Morally bankrupt people, morally bankrupt friends.

And those who came into my life before I became better? Some of them are very much in my life, but I’m beginning to see their better side. It takes only a skilled carpenter to appreciate a log of wood. Only a skilled artist can really appreciate pencil. If all you see is evil, pain and the ills around you, there’s something wrong with you. (no offense intended).

“What you see is an extension of who you are”

Better in this context is a process which entails studying, thinking, listening, unlearning and most importantly applying all the new information. You can never be better if you don’t absorb and apply the new information.

This is my philosophy; Be better to experience better.

Since God can do any and everything, he could have flown the Israelites over the red sea. It wouldn’t have been too hard for him. Jer 32:27

He could’ve sent an angel to kill goliath or better yet allow thunder to strike him down.

God could’ve made Joseph the prime minister without Joseph having to lift a finger. He could have appeared to pharoah and say “Appoint him prime minister or die”.

Afterall he’s God, who can question Him, His modus operandi? You? Me?

I’ve observed that most of God’s wonders involve us; our attitudes, skills and general abilities.

Moses used the rod in his hands to part the red sea.
David used the stones in his bag to slay Goliath.
Joseph maintained a great attitude and served to the best of his ability.
Elisha also parted the sea with Elijah’s rod.

The wonders God is going to do in your life requires something already in your hands. We all have something of worth. If only we can be willing…

What are in your hands ?
