You may never be the star on your TV set but you can be a star right where you are. Whatever you do, Shine!
An eagle is still an eagle even if it never takes flight.
It still remains an eagle even if it decides to become a vegetarian.
Even if it’s wings and feathers are cut off.
Even if its talons and beaks are cut off.
Even if it decides to act like a chicken
An eagle is an eagle not because of its physical features or its current ability. An eagle is an eagle simply because of its “parents”- simple
If not so, then drastically changing their external features or physical capabilities would mean they’d cease being eagles but that is not the case.
Likewise we’re winners. We’re victorious.
We’re stars not because of our great jobs, mansions, businesses, toys and the likes. We’re eagles because of our Father who is in heaven.
Have you been able to count the number of stars yet?
Have you seen the beautiful clouds?
Have you seen how a tiny seed can grow into a forest?
And above all, have you seen the very best he’s created? Just look in the mirror.
He created them all.
So even if I lose everything I have today
Even if my account has redefined the color red
Even if everything is working out horribly
Even if I can’t seem to get any break at the office
Even if I keep losing money
Even if I’ve not done anything worthwhile in my life
It doesn’t make me less of a star.
You go to the airport and see some planes that look like they’ve never taken off before. Their dilapidation has not turned them into monkeys.
Those who fly in this life are those who believed beyond all circumstances that they were made to fly. Truth is we’re all made to fly. But only a few people ever recognize that.
Incase you’ve forgotten or didn’t know, let me remind you that you are an eagle and it’s high time you start acting you. Be you.
Can you remember the toys you had as a kid? Can you remember the number of games you wanted to play (usually at the same time)? Most times, even while playing one, if something about the other game caught your eye and you immediately jumped in immediately and wanted to enjoy that too.
And when that didn’t happen, you cried or threw tantrums.
As kids, we wanted to fly like superman, have super-sharp swords like a Samurai and also have cool gadgets like batman. Now we’re adults… and those feelings have faded. Or have they?
Now, it has metamorphosed, we now want to do everything and be everywhere.
Our minds by default are like an average child, and until we restrain it, we’d just end up jumping at the next thing that catches our eyes without being rooted in any particular thing.

After listening to a plethora of songs, she said, “Everyone of us wants to be a star”. I believed her. I still believe her.
In every man lies the deep urge to be a star. Some however decide or believe they’re incapable of shining, but the truth is the urge never dies. It still remains…although subdued.
Why does that urge remain? It is because of our source; from whence we came. The bible calls him The bright and Morning Star.
No matter your race, your position, your religion, you were made to shine like a star.
You may never shine like the stars on the billboards, magazines and the big screens BUT you can shine in your own right.
Be you… SHINE !!!
I watched as a music legend was interviewed and was inspired by his answers. This man had many best-selling albums to his credit and he was still soaring high. The interview was going quite well until…
He cried uncontrollably on live TV after being asked about his single status. He talked about the loneliness he faces as a result of his singleness. As much as he engrossed himself in work, he still felt the sting. Until then, I thought him to be perfect; someone who had everything going for him. I was wrong…very wrong.
But by sharing his story, I found strength. I came to a realization that everything in my life doesn’t have to be perfect before I manifest my potentials and numerous abilities.
It made me realize that even in his battles, a fierce one at that, he still made sure to keep his head above water and fight and win. His awards and songs are there to prove it.
My circumstances or past is not an excuse to remain where I am. Your circumstances or your past is not a good enough excuse to keep you from shining. Rather it is a dare to lunge forward like the knight in armor who is not afraid to take down the ogre who is many times bigger and stronger.
Sometimes I wish we’d all step back once in a while and share our struggles with one another. The strength we’ll find will be inexplicable. Many of us who seemingly have perfect lives should once in a while share some of our present battles to inspire others. You don’t have to have won to inspire someone. The fact that you are fighting and are hopeful of overcoming is sometimes more than enough.
I wish pastors and role models would share their battles so that others may know that they are not alone. People run away from church because it’s a gathering of seemingly perfect lives, people who have everything going for them, people who have not done any wrong since the beginning of time.
There’s a reason Paul came out to say the things I desire to do, I do not do and the things I hate to do are the things I end up doing. The main reason was to give us strength. If Paul could fall and get up and still be regarded as one of God’s best, then I can. If Peter could deny Christ 3 times and still make something out of his life, then I surely can.
Weakness thrives in secrecy. Some people run away from God because they think they can never be good enough. If only they knew who we were before God called us.
Truth is; we can’t be good enough or perfect enough to be used by God. Willingness and obedience are the most important.
Moses was a stutterer, doubter, excuse-giver and killer but after obedience and his faithful walk with God. He became one of the mightiest leaders in the bible.
Sick people take drugs to get better; the more sick they are, the more medications they have to consume.
Whatever addiction you have shouldn’t be an excuse to run away from God. You cannot make yourself better by yourself.
Light and darkness cannot coexist. If you sincerely desire to lose a bad habit, keep walking with God and the change you would see would be inevitable.
“Our politicians are corrupt” is a widely accepted and endorsed belief by majority of the Nigerian populace.
I believe differently; Our politicians are not corrupt, we as a people are corrupt.
How? Let me explain with some scenarios;
1. If you’ve ever “rounded-up” figures in a bid to get extra change, you’re no different from the politicians who do the same in a bid to get extra change
2. If you’ve ever lied to save your neck, you’re no different from the politicians who do the same.
3. If you’ve ever shunted in traffic or jumped the queue, you’re no different from the politicians who bend or circumvent the laws already laid down.
4. If you’ve ever stolen something, you’re no different from the politicians who steal in the millions and billions
5. If you’ve ever performed less than you were assigned on a project or taken a longer break than was allowed for no cogent reason, you’re no different from the politicians who do the same at the expense of national matters.
6. If you’ve ever promised something you were not certain of fulfilling, you’re no different from the politicians who tell us beautiful tales whenever they’re vying for a position.
7. If you’ve ever kept silent about a wrong done in your organization or around you, you’re no different from some politicians who keep quiet when their counterparts wreck havoc.
8. If you’ve ever given a friend or family a job or contract whose ability you could not fully ascertain, you’re no different from politicians who give out contracts based on favor and not ability.
Finally, if you’ve ever done any wrong in your life, you’re no different from some of our politicians. The only thing that separates you and the thieving and corrupt politician is OPPORTUNITY. Those stealing billions now once stole little thousands; a gradual process.
This piece is not meant to justify the wrongs of the politicians. Rather it is a challenge for us to rise up and do the best we can with all honesty, discipline and integrity.
If we want a change, we must look at our mirrors and begin from the image we see there. Our present crop of politicians cannot rule foreverand in due time some of us would get the opportunity to also lead.
I reiterate; Nigeria doesn’t have corrupt politicians, Nigeria has corrupt people. And until we change, the vicious cycle of corruption would forever hold sway.
